Jimmy Carter: Relevant to recovery

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 29, 2007

The Sun Herald, 5/27/7

Working with Habitat for Humanity, a former president keeps focus on rebuilding the Gulf CoastI had last seen Jimmy Carter in the White House. Several Southern editors had been asked to join the president for a briefing and to ask our questions. At some level, I was proud to see someone like myself – a Southerner and a Southern Baptist – elected president. He had spoken of being “born again,” a concept taught in my youth and one I embraced, and I thought it good to have such a decent man elected.

But in the 26 years since, Jimmy Carter has accomplished much good, working for many causes connected in some way to his world view that is so influenced by the gospel and example of Jesus Christ, the carpenter from Nazareth.
