“To the evangelical community, he gave a voice to us when we had no voice,” said the Rev. Phillip Knight, president of the Florence-based Congregational Methodist Church. “In over 100 years of Christianity in America, no one has had this kind of influence in the political and social and educational aspect of society.”
“He knew that to be effective, he needed to put in place systems and programs and schools,” said James Bowley, chairman of the religious studies department at Millsaps College in Jackson. “His Liberty University is huge, and its influence is huge, too.”
