Voter ID: Ross’s photo op makes issue no less valid…

To be sure, State Sen. Charlie Ross’s press conference urging Gov. Haley Barbour to call a special legislative session to address the issue of Voter ID is a political stunt designed to draw attention to his bid for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

But the fact that Ross is using the issue for a campaign photo op doesn’t make the principles involved any less valid. Mississippi should have a Voter ID law. The fact that the Noxubee County Democratic Executive Committee is facing federal charges that they willfully discriminated against white voters in recent elections coupled with Mississippi’s sorry history of discrimination against black voters make the issue crystal clear.
