The 288th will report for duty June 7, before heading to Fort McCoy in Wisconsin for training. Cross said the mobilization is not related to President Bush?s recent increase in troop levels.

The 288th specializes ?in building construction and maintenance, and clears routes for convoys and security patrols,? Tim Powell, a Guard spokesman, said in news release. ?They are expected to remain on active duty for one year.?

?Our National Guard forces in Mississippi have proven that they are some of the best-trained soldiers by their performance in the Global War on Terrorism,? Barbour said. ?Marsha and I wish these soldiers the best during their tour of duty in Iraq.?
