BREAKING – David Blount announces to run against Richard White

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 25, 2007

David Blount, current Communications Director for Secretary of State Eric Clark, announced today that he has registered to run for the Mississippi Senate District 29 against Republican incumbent Richard White. In an email to supporters this afternoon, Blount announced his planned resignation from the SOS office effective 1/31 to devote his full attention to his campaign for State Senate.

This will be another noteworthly legislative race in the metro area. Blount is press savvy, will be well funded and has many friends on the Democratic side of the ledger. He has been Eric Clark’s shadow and understudy during the last few years and probably picked up some tricks of the trade along the way.

Last election, it took Richard White a runoff to beat Dewayne Thomas in a hotly contested election that resulted in a special election due to irregularities. Thomas now sits as a Chancellor in Hinds County after winning the election this past November.

This will be another very interesting race for control in the State Legislature.
