Analysis: S.Korea hit by labor disputes

The labor unrests at Hyundai Motor are likely to accelerate its moves to shift production overseas. Hyundai Motor, which opened its first U.S. plant in Alabama in May, is considering building its first full-line facility in Southeast Asia. Global expansion is vital to Hyundai, which aims to sell 65.5 percent of its vehicles abroad in 2005, company officials said.

Its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. is also considering building a U.S. plant. “We strongly feel the necessity of having a plant in the United States and we are intrigued by the generous offer from Mississippi,” a company official said.
