Conditions at complex upgraded

City officials and Lincoln Garden residents say conditions have improved at the Jackson apartment complex nearly a year after then-Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. threatened to cut off water service and condemn the place.

“Everything’s a lot better now,” resident Christine Taylor said last week.

Taylor lived at the 100-unit complex on Sunset Drive last year when Johnson intervened because of poor living conditions and a $20,000 overdue water bill.
At the time, code enforcement officers noted raw sewage pooling around the buildings, faulty electrical wiring and missing windows.

“There are no problems like that anymore,” Taylor said. “If I have any problems, I call the office and they take care of me.”

Jerome Anderson, with the city’s Division of Community Improvement, said violations have been corrected.
