Jackson man, 22, charged in shooting
A 22-year-old Jackson man was charged with murder in the shooting death of 32-year-old Terry L. Kelly on Monday morning, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Steve Pickett said.
Kelly was shot by Michael Thompson following a dispute on Lyons Road in Bolton, Pickett said. Both men had handguns, he said.
An autopsy on Kelly was scheduled to be performed Monday night, but a preliminary examination showed Kelly suffered a single gunshot wound near the back of the head, Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said.
Kelly’s license showed an address in Clinton, but officials said family members at the scene said he was living in Jackson.
Thompson is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond, and authorities are still unclear of the motive, Pickett said.

Multiple shooters suspected in death
Jackson police say more than one shooter may be responsible in a shooting that left one woman dead and five others wounded on Northside Drive early Sunday.
“Evidence recovered at the scene is from different shell casings,” Jackson police spokesman Robert Graham said. “Multiple rounds were fired. We have a lot of people who saw the shooting, but very few can give information on who was doing it.”
No guns were found and a motive has not been determined, Graham said.
LaKita Williams, 21, of Jackson, died of a single gunshot wound to the back after the 3 a.m. shooting in the 4100 block of Northside Drive. Five others – Lorenzo Curry, Akera Galloway, Tony Kelly, Eddie Newton and Gerail Thomas – suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, police said.
“According to detectives, Williams was not believed to be a target,” Graham said.
An unidentified person police reported as the sixth victim in the Northside Drive shooting actually was injured in an unrelated crime, Graham said Monday. In the unrelated shooting, Gary Buck was shot in the thigh and abdomen Sunday, Graham said. No other information was available, police said.
