Melton adds ex-mayor of Vicksburg to team
Frank Melton, Jackson’s mayor-elect, named several additions to his administration on Wednesday, including the selection of Jackson State University professor and former Vicksburg Mayor Robert Walker as chief administrative officer.
“His strengths are my weaknesses and his weaknesses are my strengths. He’s a methodical, day-to-day manager. I’m a leader and a visionary,” Melton said.
Sarah O’Reilly-Evans, a Jackson lawyer who worked on Melton’s campaign, will replace City Attorney Terry Wallace, Melton said. O’Reilly-Evans is Melton’s second pick for a department head, behind Shirlene Anderson, who was announced Monday as police chief. O’Reilly-Evans could not be reached Wednesday night.
Walker, 61, a two-term former mayor, will replace Otha Burton when Melton takes office July 4. Melton defeated Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. in the May 3 Democratic primary and Republican Rick Whitlow in the June 7 general election.
