2 weekend stabbings put city’s homicide total at 14

Jackson police made arrests in two separate fatal stabbings this weekend.

An unidentified woman was found dead in a pool of blood at 434 Hand St., where police were called around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Police spokesman Robert Graham said he could not reveal the woman’s identity until her family was notified.

Shortly after noon, police arrested Cynthia Jefferies, 24, of the same address, in connection with the woman’s death.

Graham said the case is still under investigation.

On Friday night, George Samuel, 27, of McKee Street in Jackson was pronounced dead of multiple stab wounds shortly after arriving at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Graham said.

Samuel had been stabbed at least once in the stomach and his throat had been cut, Lt. Robert Whiteside said Friday night.

Spencer Gomillion, 27, an acquaintance of Samuel’s, was arrested and charged with murder Friday night. He was being held without bond in the Hinds County Detention Center.
