On Tuesday night, 16 WAPT revealed their latest polling numbers on the Democratic Primary according to a Mason Dixon poll of 500 Jacksonians commissioned by that station. The poll has a margin of error of +/-4.5%. More details are available at WAPT’s web site.

Top Issue
A Mason Dixon poll commissioned by 16 WAPT confirmed what many have suspected for several years. The Number 1 issue on the minds of Jackson voters is crime.
Approximately 500 voters in Jackson were polled and asked their opinions about issues in Jackson and about the mayoral contest itself.
When asked about what was the Number 1 issue facing Jackson, 43% of respondents said that Crime was the top issue followed by Education (16%) and Jobs/Economic Development (10%). Those feelings held up across racial lines with both African American (38%) and White (53%) voters agreeing in overwhelming numbers that adequately addressing crime is job one vs other priorities.
An interesting side note to this polling data was that Downtown Development, a key bragging point of the Johnson campaign, did not break single digits on the minds of registered Jackson voters as a top issue.
