Man Dies After Workplace Shooting In Downtown Jackson

Authorities in Jackson are investigating a fatal shooting at a downtown business.

Jackson police said the shooting took place Friday at about 11 a.m. at Anglin Tire Co., and involved two mechanics at the business.

Police spokesman Lee Vance said Eddie Mitchell and Cliff Patterson, 43, had been arguing about some missing tools. Police said Mitchell pulled a gun and shot Patterson, who died at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

“Those guys have been knowing each other for a long time, and we never thought this would come to this and happen,” said Eric Winford, Patterson’s cousin.

Most employees described Mitchell and Patterson as friends who seemed to like each other. Both had worked at the shop for five years.
