Jackson area ministers endorse Harvey Johnson

Jackson area ministers endorse Harvey Johnson

On April 2, 45 ministers gathered at Mayor Harvey Johnson’s campaign office to formally endorse him for reelection.

Amidst cheers, chants, and applause, Johnson thanked the ministers for their support.

“We were here when I first ran in 1997,” Johnson said. “I had your support. We came again amongst tough opposition in 2001, you were here, and I thank God that you are here with me in 2005.”

The Rev. John Cameron, pastor of Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, led the group of ministers’ endorsement announcement.

“I’m reminded of years ago when I was in school and I was running for class president,” Cameron said. “Part of the campaign strategy was that the students were looking for someone who was a good president. As is true with Mayor Johnson, the citizens of Jackson are not looking for anyone new, but someone who is a good mayor. Mayor Johnson is a good mayor and deserves four more years in office.”
