There seems to be an effort afoot in the pro-DeLaughter camp to point out the conflicts in testimony between Steve Patterson and Dickie Scruggs on the one hand and Tim Balducci on the other. Of course, Dickie Scruggs and Steve Patterson have been on the same side of the fence trying to tarnish Tim Balducci…

On Friday, Cal Mayo, attorney for Dickie Scruggs and Zach Scruggs filed a supplemental brief on their motion to dismiss and/or delay proceedings in Wilson v. Scruggs 2.0. https://yall.rndr.tech/images/Scruggs/WilsonvScruggs2070909.pdf. It had some good history flashbacks to some of the legal arguments in Wilson v. Scruggs and Luckey v. Scruggs.

Witness accounts seem to conflict Balducci told lawyers in his deposition that Patterson told him Peters “had been retained as a conduit of information between us and Judge DeLaughter to influence him in our favor” and that Peters provided the legal team with copies of the judge’s rulings in the case before they were filed.…

AGNEW – McNair: Good man, bad mistake
McNair: Good man, bad mistake I marveled at the athletic prowess of this gifted athlete and watched with amazement how he made difficult plays look easy. General Hood: Channeling the ‘Kingfish’ Huey Long?
General Hood: Channeling the ‘Kingfish’ Huey Long? Senate Republicans and Gov. Haley Barbour oppose that shift in power and want to maintain the legal wall of separation that the Legislature put between the elected PSC and the appointed Public Utilities Staff after an elected commissioner was convicted of taking bribes from the companies he regulated…

Reapportionment 201
Reapportionment 201 These questions are answered in part by an examination of census objectives. Additionally, from the numbers gleaned from the decennial census, a different standard is applied for congressional reapportionment. In Mississippi, we have 1,873,740 registered voters out of 2,910,540 residents, 26.1 percent of whom are under the age of 18, and thus unable,…

HAMPTON – Barbour redefines power of the office
Barbour redefines power of the office Barbour routinely has been winning his way with the Legislature throughout his time in office, even though constitutionally the legislative branch should hold all the cards. He has done it by a variety of political tactics. His ability to communicate issues in his terms, his bringing party discipline to…

CL EDITORIAL – PSC: Compromise but questions
PSC: Compromise but questions Does the Public Utility Staff have resources to aggressively investigate rate hike requests? Is it? Should the attorney general’s office have more of a role in consumer protection involving rate hikes? Should PSC commissioners be elected, especially when most other states have abandoned an elective system? It is clear that the…
