Mississippi Senator arrested on third DUI charge

By: Sarah Ulmer - December 20, 2018

Senator and Pro Tempore Terry Burton was arrested Wednesday night in Oktibbeha County on his third DUI charge according to the Starkville Daily News.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol reports, the Senator was charged with ‘failure to stay in lane’ around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was then taken to Oktibbeha County Jail where he bonded out at $1,000.

A statement is expected to come from the Mississippi Highway Patrol sometime Thursday.

If he is found guilty, Burton’s record will show two DUI convictions and three charges. He was previously charged, but found not guilty in 2016 after a wreck in Scott County. He pleaded guilty to his first charge in 2014.

Burton has served in the Mississippi legislature since 1992.
