Why Browns passed on Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy
The Cleveland Browns selected safety T.J. Ward from Oregon with the 38th pick of the NFL draft on Friday, and again left top-prospect quarterbacks on the board.
Team president Mike Holmgren said on ESPN the Browns “thought long and hard” about selecting a QB such as Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy, but determined they didn’t have a big enough need under center.
“We had too many other areas of the football team to try and build on that we just thought we had to go in a different direction now,” Holmgren said.
