‘Pound’ sparks USM’s dominant second half

There are times when the turning point of a football game is so obvious you don’t even have to ask coaches and players about it afterward.
Southern Miss’ mighty mite freshman Tracey Lampley provided one of those – with an exclamation point! – on a brisk Saturday night at Roberts Stadium.

Struggling USM, with essentially its season on the line, led Memphis 10-6 midway through the third quarter. The visiting Tigers were lined up to punt from their own 9-yard line. And there Lampley was, standing all alone at midfield, looking far smaller than his listed 5 feet, 8 inches and 170 pounds.
