SEC EXTRA: Matching up Auburn and Mississippi State
Game within the game: If Eltoro Freeman is able to return from injury Saturday, it will be a huge boost for Auburn’s depth-challenged defense. But that doesn’t mean Adam Herring’s accomplishments in Game 1 will be forgotten. Herring played virtually the entire opener in place of Freeman and looked like a seasoned pro, despite missing all of spring and nearly all of camp with a heel injury. His production gives defensive coordinator Ted Roof at least one reserve linebacker he can feel good about, something that will come in handy as the season goes on and injuries pile up.
