Smith tries on Pegues’ big shoes
STARKVILLE — The question came so often to Derek Pegues that he probably got tired of it early: How has playing quarterback in high school helped you as a free safety?
Now, Pegues has left the Mississippi State secondary, his eligibility exhausted at the conclusion of last season.
Zach Smith, a junior, is projected to take over for him. And yes, he was a star high school quarterback. And yes, it’s helped him adjust to the position.
