NEWSMS – State Auditor: Self audit reports no issues found yet
Mississippi’s newly appointed State Auditor Shad White said his office is currently in the process of conducting a self-audit and so far there have been no significant issues found.
White initially announced his office’s plans to initiate a compliance audit of their office in August and said they will have the final results of the audit on September 19th.
The audit is a two-step process and White says the first one has gone smoothly with auditors from outside of the state coming in to assess their practices.
“That involved lawyers from Louisiana, Virginia and several other states and they spent a week in our office and did an analysis on how we do audits,” White said. “The great thing is that it is evidence that previous Auditor Stacey Pickering had done a great job. We had no written findings which in accounting terms means a clean bill of health.”

DESOTO TIMES – Cyber security on election priority meeting set
Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and his staff are hosting a special community meeting at the DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando today in advance of the No. 6 general election and simultaneous special nonpartisan election for the open U.S. Senate seat.
The meeting is slated for 2:30 p.m. in the main second story courtroom of the DeSoto County Courthouse.
“We’re holding these meetings all over the state because of low voter turnout and to head of concerns related to cyber security,” said Leah Rupp Smith, Attorney/Assistant Secretary of State of Communications in the Executive Division of the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. “These are open to the public and we expect this one to be very well attended.”
Hosemann said he wanted to address voters’ concerns and allay any fears of potential interference.

WAPT – Hinds County DA Robert Smith found not guilty
Jurors delivered a not guilty verdict Wednesday night in Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith’s criminal trial.
Smith was found not guilty on a robbery charge.
Jurors could not come to a unanimous agreement on the aggravated stalking charge.
Attorney General Jim Hood’s office released a statement. “Unfortunately we live in a world where powerful men get away with abusing women and use their position to threaten their victim. Our office takes on tough cases on behalf of victims, particularly victims of domestic violence. We will discuss a retrial with the victim and decide later,” according to AG spokesperson Margaret Ann Morgan.
