On this the bicentennial celebration of Charles Darwin’s birth, I can’t help but tip my cap to the man whose work has become a subtext to college football’s offensive schemes.
At this point you are probably beginning to seriously doubt the credibility of Central Michigan University as an institution of higher learning, but stay with me.
Although the simultaneously revered and loathed father of evolution was born 60 years prior to Rutgers’ 6-4 thumping of Princeton in the first documented college football game, observations documented in his magnum opus, “On the Origin of Species,” underlie the history of the game.
