Auburn’s eyes are open; let’s hope minds are, too
Rodney Garner laughed. It’s been a little more than a year since we last talked, but I still remember that deep bass chuckle.
It was his initial reaction to this question:
Have you ever been a serious candidate for a head coaching job?
“No,” he said, as the laughter stopped. “I have not been a serious player.”
But he’d compiled what he called “a dream team” of potential assistants just in case.
Garner was a serious player at Auburn as a player. He’s been a serious player in the SEC as an assistant coach at Auburn, Tennessee and, since 1998, Georgia, where he’s now the assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach.
