Which Manning boy would you take?
When I was asked on a sports radio show last November to describe how Giants fans in New York viewed Eli Manning, I compared him to the buzzcutted kid in the Gary Larsen Far Side comic. You know the one — the kid who is hopelessly pushing to get into the Midvale School for the Gifted, while the door clearly says “Pull.”
Eli was on the doorstep, and there were flashes of brilliance from time to time, but overall — well, the kid just wasn’t quite there yet. After a four-interception performance in what then appeared to be a devastating 41-17 Week 12 loss to the Vikings in the Meadowlands, the visual made all the more sense. In the end, Eli was always going to be the goofy younger brother of Peyton; a decent NFL quarterback, but a walking interception and letdown just waiting to happen.
