THE worst thing that can be said about a football team is that it is soft. Ask any coach in the country on any level and they’ll tell you – soft is like saying a surgeon has lost his nerve.
About the worst thing that can be said about a sports writer is that he’s coach’s boy. You’re no longer a reporter, you’re a chump. It’s like calling a cop dirty. Disgraceful.
Shortly after Charlie Weis got the Notre Dame job, word filtered back that I was Charlie’s boy. Fortunately there were no Ginsu knives lying around.
