Cool Singletary savors first victory
Mike Singletary decided, properly, to savor the moment, as many times as he could. After all, you win your first one only once, and after that, expectations come a’creepin’.
So it was that, having finished supervising the 49ers’ 35-16 win over the perfectly horrifying St. Louis Rams, he walked slowly off the Candlestick Park grounds. He waved a few times at the fans, but didn’t grandstand his way into the tunnel. He spoke after the game with a deliberate and determined pace, making sure that he savored his message as much as the people to whom he directed it, wearing a large but simple crucifix on a plain leather lanyard – obvious, yet oddly understated.
