Last week: Lost to Alabama, 32-7.
# Saturday: vs. Arkansas, 1:30 p.m., Scott Field, Starkville
# TV: None
# Radio: MSU Network (WOAD-105.9 FM)
On Offense
Led by quarterback Casey Dick and running back Michael Smith, Arkansas has an offense that ranks in the middle of the pack of most Southeastern Conference statistics. Dick, the senior veteran, has thrown for 11 touchdowns this season, but that number is marred by his 14 interceptions. D.J. Williams is Dick’s favorite target. Smith, a junior from Tallahassee, is shining now that Darren McFadden and Felix Jones have left Fayetteville. He has seven touchdowns and has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau.
On Defense
What the Razorbacks have accomplished on offense has too often been unraveled by their defense. Arkansas is dead-last in the SEC in points allowed per game, 31.9, and yards allowed per game, 375.3. The Razorbacks lost seven starters off last year’s unit and are still feeling the effects of youth, even this late into the season. Six of Arkansas’ defensive starters in its most recent game were underclassmen. Weakside linebacker Jerry Franklin, a freshman, is the team’s leading tackler and has two interceptions.
