American golf is fun again after Ryder Cup win

LOUISVILLE — How important was this Ryder Cup for American golf? How important is a fire when there’s a blizzard outside?
“We needed it bad,” Boo Weekley would say when it was over. “To show we’ve still got game, and still got heart, and we still wanted it.”

Behold the power of youth … and home … and the resolve that this time would be different.
Americans were not supposed to turn into the Tampa Bay Rays.
Recent history was too bleak. The Europeans were too good. The U.S. team was too green.
And Tiger Woods was a thousand miles away, apparently glued to his text messenger.
