Tidbits from UF’s 08-09 athletic budget
Florida’s University Athletic Association board approved an $84 million budget for 2008-09 at its meeting Monday afternoon. Although much of the figures don’t matter to the fans, here are a few tidbits found in the budget materials…
**UF will pay a $600,000 guarantee to Hawaii for its Aug. 30 game against the Warriors and $450,000 to the Citadel for the Nov. 22 game. Those are one-time deals. UF will pay $400,000 to Miami when it visits Nov. 6 but likely will receive that money back when it visits South Florida in 2013. The Gators also will receive $500,000 to travel to Tallahassee, the normal bounty for the road team in the UF-FSU series.
**The Gators will play 17 men’s basketball games at the O’Connell Center in 2008-09. The big opponents on the home schedule include the five teams from the SEC East, SEC West foes Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama, and North Carolina State from the ACC. Before that comes the parade of patsies — Southern Utah State, Florida A&M, Stetson, Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Longwood and two unannounced opponents in the CBE Classic in November.
**UF will play five neutral site games — Missouri-Kansas City in Orlando, UCF in Jacksonville, a game at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla. (likely versus Winthrop), and two games in Kansas City in the CBE Classic. The Kansas City opponents likely will come from a group composed of Syracuse, Kansas and Washington. The Gators will also face FSU on the road, as well as the five SEC East teams, Mississippi State, LSU and Auburn.
