Speaker Philip Gunn on JLBC Revised Revenue Estimate

Jackson, MS—Today, members of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC) met to discuss the revised revenue estimate for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 as they head into conference weekend.

The JLBC moved to adopt $5.6 billion in general funds for the revenue available to be used in crafting the FY18 budget. This number reflects a zero percent growth from Sine Die FY17 estimate.

“We promised we are going to live within our means,” said Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, chairman of JLBC this year. “We are going to budget the state tax payers’ money based on the dollars we have, and this is the conservative way of doing that.”
