Trent Lott, Tom Daschle speak on blueprint for civility

Ruckelshaus, Daschle, Lott lay out a blueprint for civility to get America ‘unstuck’

The Chairman’s Circle Luncheon discussion, lead by Ruckelshaus, featured two former U.S. Senate Majority Leaders — Tom Daschle(D-SD) and Trent Lott(R-MS).

“With each passing crisis, our friendship has grown,” said Daschle of Lott. Daschle described working with elected officials like “loading frogs on a wheelbarrow.”

Lott described the same thing in “Herding Cats,” the book he has written on the topic.

“We need to have women and men of good faith willing to talk together and listen,” he said. “But every time America is confronted with a challenge, they rise to the challenge and will again,” he added.
