Breaking down the McDaniel challenge
The process: McDaniel wants an open-to-the-public hearing on Aug. 12 with the GOP, where his lawyers and Cochran’s would be given 2 ½ hours each to present their cases. He wants the 52-member Republican executive committee to then vote by secret ballot to choose a nominee.
McDaniel lawyer Mitch Tyner notes in the request that “it appears that this is the first statewide challenge in Mississippi, so there is no previous framework regarding procedure. He said he’s checking with Mississippi College to see if its auditorium could be used on that day.
