Greg Davis trial set
The embezzlement trial of ex-Southaven mayor Greg Davis is slated for 9 a.m. Monday in DeSoto County Circuit Court.
Sources close to the situation say Davis’ attorney Steve Farese will likely move for a change of venue due to publicity surrounding the high profile case.
Farese has argued in the past that it would be difficult for Davis to get a fair trial in DeSoto County.
District Attorney John Champion had no official comment.
Jury selection could begin Monday if no change of venue motion is granted.
Trial testimony could begin later Monday afternoon and the court proceeding could last several days.
Davis is facing three counts involving false pretense and embezzlement on local charges brought by the District Attorney. The case brought by State Auditor Stacey Pickering, which was later decided by a Hinds County Chancery Judge, is a separate matter.
