Taylor says he won’t debate just Carter
GULFPORT — Gene Taylor said Thursday he turned down a challenge from Republican opponent Tom Carter to debate.
“I think he sent it to the wrong guy,” said Taylor, referring to incumbent U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, who had turned down Taylor’s request for a debate.
Taylor said Carter wanted to debate Taylor alone. Besides Palazzo, Ron Vincent and Tavish Kelly are running in the June 3 primary.
“I’ve got to go for volume,” he said. “I have to be where the crowds are.”
