The folks at Cottonmouth have been a bit doe-eyed at the prospect of another Democrat entering the US Senate race in Mississippi.
Though they and most of the other people in the moneyed elite section of the Mississippi Democratic Party are first going to have to get you to forget that Bill Marcy has entered to run as a Democrat for the Senate race. So they’d have to get rid of Marcy to have an uncontested primary, which some privately seem to be angling to do in the form of just not certifying Marcy’s candidacy if someone better comes along.
With the deadline nearing, YP did a little recon. At this point, if someone serious were going to announce, they’d at least have their digital IDs locked down.
The only one that comes back with a hit is Travis Childers. ChildersForSenate.com was registered shortly after State Senator Chris McDaniel announced he was running. Childers has done what he can to stoke the rumor by having a couple of articles come out in December, but has also said that he “would be less apt to run if Senator Cochran runs.”
The ghost of Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid loom large over Travis Childers. He voted with Pelosi 81% of the time. Travis Childers was squishy on Obamacare and time after time wouldn’t commit until Pelosi’s leadership knew it had to get the votes before cutting him a pass.
Whether Childers jumps in remains to be seen, but if he does, he will have a record to run on . . . and it ain’t particularly good in Mississippi.
Will Travis Childers run and get out if Cochran wins the Republican primary?
Will he just be a stalking horse for Former Governor Ronnie Musgrove’s bid to make Republicans spend money on Southern political seats?
