Ocean Springs’ Scott Walker plans to plead guilty to fraud, conspiracy
Ocean Springs businessman and former mayoral candidate Scott Walker plans to plead guilty to one count of fraud and one count of conspiracy in two federal corruption cases filed against him and others.
Walker filed a notice Tuesday evening of his intent to plead guilty in U.S. District Court under a plea agreement covering both cases.
Walker’s co-defendant in one case, former D’Iberville City Manager Michael Janus, has already pleaded guilty to fraud and had agreed to testify against Walker at a trial scheduled for March 10. Each of the men was charged with conspiracy, fraud, bribery and two counts of money laundering.
In the second case, Walker was charged along with his father, former state Department of Marine Resources Executive Director Bill Walker, with one count each of conspiracy to defraud the federal government, fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, and two counts each of mail fraud.
