From Miss. speaker’s tour: Guns, education, taxes
Public officials and private citizens wanting clarity about gun laws. Conservatives opposing Common Core education standards. Mayors and city board members wanting a local sales tax.
Those are among the most vocal groups of people turning out for public meetings as Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn conducts a 10-city “listening tour.” The Republican from Clinton says he’s gathering ideas for the 2014 legislative session that starts in January.
Meetings were set for Monday in Clinton, Clarksdale and Olive Branch; Tuesday in Oxford, Corinth and Starkville; Wednesday in Vicksburg and Natchez; and Thursday in Laurel and Pascagoula.
