LT. GOV. REEVES TO HOST MISSISSIPPI EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM
Tupelo event will offer curriculum, technology training for teachers, administrators
Registration is open today for Mississippi educators to hear the latest on teaching methods and technology in the classroom at the Mississippi Education Symposium, hosted by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, on Oct. 29 in Tupelo.
“This is an opportunity to hear from cutting-edge experts in education,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “We have many teachers in the Mississippi schools that work hard and really want to see their students succeed. I hope this symposium assists them in embracing and feeling comfortable implementing these new technologies and innovative teaching methods to reach students and raise the level of academic achievement.”
The Symposium will feature former U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. William Bennett. The event, co-sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Education, will begin at 9 a.m. at the BancorpSouth Conference Center, 375 East Main St., in Tupelo.
Dr. Bennett, one of America’s most important, influential and respected voices on cultural, political, and education issues, explains that the industry is in need of an educational symposiums such as this one hosted by Lt. Gov. Reeves. “Because of Mississippi’s vision, educators will be able to effectively implement state-of-the-art curriculum and technologies in their schools, and in return, their students will walk out into the world prepared to think critically, collaborate, and engage as global citizens,” Dr. Bennett said.
The symposium will provide educators with materials for implementing higher academic standards in the classroom, strategies for teaching English and math courses, and applying technology to teaching techniques. The event will include Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld, author and associate dean in education at Molloy College in New York; Harry Dickens, author and technology director for the Arkansas Public School Resource Center; and former Mississippi principal Dr. Billy Ray Jones, founder and executive director of Superior Learning and Leadership.
