Earlier today, the Mississippi Republican Party welcomed five elected officials to its membership at an announcement event held at 2:30 pm at 220 S Jackson St. in Brookhaven.
Sheriff Steve Rushing, Coroner Clay McMorris, Constable Post 1 Kelly Porter, Justice Court Judge Post 1 Joe Portrey, and Election Commissioner Marsha Warren were the Lincoln County officials introduced as the latest elected officials to switch from the Democrat Party to join the Republican Party.
Gov. Phil Bryant, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, Congressman Gregg Harper, Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith, State Sen. Sally Doty, State Rep. Becky Currie, Chancery Clerk Tillmon Bishop, Circuit Clerk Dustin Barfield, Brookhaven Mayor Joe Cox, Lincoln County GOP Chairman John Roberts, and other local and county elected officials were on hand to welcome the new Republican officials.
“We welcome these five officials to the growing ranks of the Mississippi Republican Party and congratulate county Chairman John Roberts and our other local party leaders for making this happen,” said MSGOP Chairman Joe Nosef, “These local officials understand that the only home for conservatives in Mississippi is the Republican Party.”
Gov. Phil Bryant said, “With this move, these five individuals are charting a new course for their constituents they represent. I appreciate the work of the Mississippi Republican Party in making this happen and look forward to more announcements as the national Democrat Party continues to move more to the left.”
“Sheriff Rushing and these other public servants who joined the MSGOP today see a party that fights for their values, controls government excess and creates a stronger business climate,” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said. “With their help, the MSGOP will only grow stronger.”
Since 2009, the Mississippi Republican Party has welcomed more than 60 elected officials to its ranks. As the party for all conservatives in the state, the Mississippi Republican Party is primed for growth. We will continue to protect and promote the values shared by Mississippians, and we encourage all who believe in these principles to join our efforts.
