Sam Hall – 2 more mayoral races to consider
In addition to the handful of metro municipal races I wrote about on Sunday, I wanted to highlight two other races that will be decided in primary elections on Tuesday — or in a primary runoff three weeks after.
Vicksburg
For some, the Vicksburg mayoral race is interesting enough simply because the field of candidates includes a former legal prostitute turned legal brothel owner and a sitting mayor with sexual harassment and federal bribery charges in his repertoire.
Incumbent Mayor Paul Winfield built a diverse and strong coalition of citizens, businessmen and community leaders four years ago to win his first term. There were high hopes all around, and his political star was about as bright as any Democrat in the state. But two years later, marred by controversy and claims of personal impropriety, it was clear his coalition had fractured and his re-election was far from assured.
