Palazzo calls Medicaid expansion a “Trojan Horse”

Congressman Steven Palazzo is calling Medicaid expansion in Mississippi a “Trojan horse,” and says state taxpayers could end up paying for it. Palazzo was in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, visiting Forrest County Agricultural High School.

He agrees with Gov. Phil Bryant and other opponents who say the state can’t afford it and says expanding Medicaid now could mean cutting other valuable programs in the future.

“My biggest fear is one day a future Congress is going to come in and say, you know what, this is Mississippi people, a Mississippi problem, you handle it, you pay for it,” Palazzo said. “And what are we going to do then? We’re going to have a couple of options. We can decrease funding for public education, decrease funding for public safety, decrease funding for public health or we can raise taxes on hard-working Mississippi families,” he said.
