MSGOP Update – 75% of voters oppose expansion
Republicans across Mississippi support and appreciate the efforts of Governor Phil Bryant, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn to oppose the expansion of Medicaid rolls in our state. A recent poll shows a significant majority of Mississippi Republicans support our MSGOP leaders in their opposition to the expansion of Medicaid. The poll shows that more than 75% oppose the expansion of Medicaid enrollment as permitted by Obamacare.
In addition, the Congressional budget, which promotes the repeal of Obamacare, proves that the concerns about the Federal Government paying for Medicaid expansion are valid.
“I appreciate Congressional Republicans, including our delegation, for taking a stand against out of control spending that would pass additional debt to our children and grandchildren,” said Governor Bryant. “Our nation is already saddled with more than $16.6 trillion in debt, and the Government Accountability Office has agreed with calculations that ObamaCare will heap an additional $6.2 trillion on to that figure. Congressional Republicans understand that the federal government cannot afford the promises of ObamaCare. I continue to believe that Mississippi should not expand Medicaid because doing so would result in tax increases for hardworking Mississippians or cuts to critical spending in areas like education, public safety and economic development.”
