Senator Longwitz Authors Bill to Curb Public Corruption

Help curb public corruption in Mississippi. Pass SB2625.

Right now, public officials can get convicted of stealing from the public, receive a slap on the wrist, and be hired again to do the same thing. A bill I authored in the Mississippi Legislature would put an end to this cycle of corruption.

SB 2625 says that “non-adjudication” is not available to those convicted of public trust crimes. In other words, their record can’t be wiped clean for them to steal taxpayer money again. The bill also says public trust violators can’t be hired for state jobs.

I am hoping the House will pass this bill with all it’s teeth. On Monday, House Judiciary Chairman Andy Gipson, R-Braxton, said “I support this.”

Embezzlers are not only getting off the hook, right now they can go back and get more of your money. We can and should change this.
