Thad Cochran helps push bill to honor Rosa Parks
U.S. Senator Thad Cochran cosponsored a resolution approved by the United States Senate on Wednesday that will honor the 100th birthday of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
According to a press release, the resolution was approved by unanimous consent. More than 50 cosponsors supported the measure.
Parks, whose birthday is Feb. 4, was arrested on Dec. 1, 1955 for refusing to give up her bus seat to a caucasian man in Montgomery, Ala. On Dec. 21, 1956, a law passed abolishing bus segregation.
