Hosemann wants military absentee voting extended for 3 Miss. counties

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is attempting to extend military absentee voting after Hinds, Pontotoc and Jefferson Davis counties missed a deadline to get ballots to those serving overseas.

Hosemann is asking for the extension after Republican Mitt Romney’s campaign in recent days sent letters to Mississippi, Wisconsin and Vermont election officials asking for an extension of time because of problems.

The Romney campaign a week ago raised concerns over Hinds County missing the Sept. 22 deadline to transmit absentte ballots to service members overseas. County officials said they corrected the problem the following week by contacting service members and getting them to agree to online voting. They said soldiers had already been voting this week.
