SH – Oil spill fund panel will have much to balance
This afternoon we will learn whom on the Coast Gov. Phil Bryant has chosen to help allocate money under the RESTORE Act. We trust those selected will have level heads and thick skins.
Mississippi will soon be getting its share of the Clean Water Act fines BP will pay in connection with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The five Gulf states are expected to split — albeit not evenly — between $5 billion and $21 billion. The money would have gone into the federal treasury but Congress decided to divert 80 percent of the fines to the states most harmed by the spill.
