Kevin Blackwell, chairman of the DeSoto County Republican Party, is seeking the District 19 State Senate seat which will be vacated by Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Southaven, who is retiring in July so that he can spend more time with his family.
Blackwell joins current District 40 State Rep. Pat Nelson, R-Southaven and longtime educator Mike Smith in the field of candidates to replace Flowers.
Blackwell, 57, a Long Island, New York native who was raised in the Winston-Salem N.C. area, has lived in DeSoto County for the past 14 years.
