Some legislative deadlines are more fatal than others
Tuesday was the last day for committees in the Mississippi House and Senate to approve legislation already passed in the opposite chamber.
But as with many legislative deadlines, some are more fatal than others.
Gov. Phil Bryant’s disappointment with the “death” of a House-approved immigration-enforcement bill he has heavily campaigned for may be short lived.
On Tuesday, Senate Judiciary B Committee Chairman Hob Bryan said he didn’t bring the legislation up for consideration because he believes it micromanages the way police officers and sheriffs do their jobs.
But the House could revive the immigration proposals by putting them into other bills that are still alive.
