New day of leadership begins for Mississippi
Mississippi’s new Republican government began taking shape Thursday with the swearing-in of statewide officeholders, a process that will culminate Tuesday when Phil Bryant is inaugurated as the state’s 64th governor.
Atty. Gen. Jim Hood is the lone Democrat.
During a joint session of the House and Senate, Chief Justice William Waller Jr. administered the oath office Thursday to all statewide officeholders other than Bryant — Hood, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, State Auditor Stacey Pickering, State Treasurer Lynn Fitch, Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney.
