2012 Legislature: Power, agenda in GOP’s grip

Lawmakers return to the Capitol on Tuesday, and Republicans are bringing long wish lists, including anti-illegal immigration measures, a law that would require reporting of suspected child sex abuse, charter school proposals and restrictions on the attorney general’s office, among others.

Many of the proposals sound familiar because conservatives have touted them for years, but their efforts have been blocked by the Democrat-controlled House.

Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Southaven, said he expects “a very positive relationship between the House and Senate” – a reversal from the past four years.
