STATEMENT OF GOV. BARBOUR ON REQUEST FOR U.S. SUPREME COURT TO HEAR OBAMACARE CHALLENGE

JACKSON – Gov. Haley Barbour said today the state of Mississippi has joined 25 other states in asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear arguments challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare.

“The U.S. Constitution created a federal government with limited powers, and it cannot force every American to buy any product, health insurance or otherwise,” Gov. Barbour said. “Additionally, Obamacare is bad policy for Mississippi and the country. Its government-run health care system will increase our Medicaid rolls by two-thirds or more and will drive up both private and state health care costs, requiring a major tax increase for our citizens.”
